Founded In 2023

Founded by Casey and Jessica Deming, Outpost was built from a shared dream of creating a place that felt welcoming, authentic, and rooted in community. What started as a vision for a modern-day general store has grown into a space where locals, travelers, outdoor enthusiasts, and families can slow down, connect, and enjoy the simple things together.

History In The Walls

When we first saw the old Oconee welcome center, we immediately saw more than just an empty building. We saw an opportunity to create something fun, welcoming, and full of life for our community. As we began renovating the space, we uncovered layers of history that had been hidden behind walls for years, exposing the original character and charm of the building that had long been forgotten. We wanted to preserve that history while giving the space new purpose: a place where people could gather, slow down, enjoy good coffee and conversation, bring their families, and feel connected to the heart of downtown Watkinsville. Our goal was never just to open another store. We wanted to help create a community gathering place that felt warm, nostalgic, and alive again.

Family Is Everything

Our family of six is at the heart of everything we do at Outpost Oconee. Truthfully, some days the shop feels a little more like a daycare than a store, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. You’ll often find our kids helping stock shelves, carrying baked goods, sweeping floors, handing out ice cream, or running around making memories inside the shop right alongside us.

More Daycare Than Store

Building Outpost has never just been about creating a business. It’s been about creating a life and a community we believe in. We want our children to grow up understanding the value of hard work, hospitality, creativity, and meaningful connection with people. We want them to see firsthand what it looks like to serve a community, build something from the ground up, and create a place where everyone feels welcome.
